An EU power generator procured coke oven gas ‘over the fence’ from a steel producer. After a deterioration of gas quality, this led to accelerated corrosion failure of the turbine blades. Ferrousity investigated the metallurgy of the failure and the chemical specification of the coke oven gas, finding that deterioration of the gas cleaning system led to these failures. The case was resolved with a financial settlement and implementation of an improvement plan.
